Sedated Kayla

With the series of thunderstorms coming through and Kayla's thunder phobia....I tried a homeopathic drug.....it is supposed to be anti-anxiety...to help her through the thunderstorm. I gave it to her for the first round of thunderstorms the other night...and it didn't seem to work. She was trying to climb on top of the bathroom counter! Bill finally had to sleep in the other room.

So - expecting more thunderstorms last night - I went to the vet and he gave me a mild sedative for her. He said to give one tablet and if it doesn't work...give her another 1/2 tablet. So, I went home and researched this drug and how greyhounds handle it. One person wrote that a greyhound's metabolism is a lot different from other dogs (since they don't have a lot of fat) and the amount you give to a cat is all you have to give a greyhound.

So - I gave her 1/2 tablet instead of a whole one just to see how the effects were on her. WOW! Poor thing - she was TOTALLY sedated. When and IF she tried to stand or walk - she was like a VERY DRUNK dog! Poor thing...she could barely move! I gave it to her at 6:30pm and when the storms FINALLY came through at 2:30am - she was still under the influence (although by this time...she could walk around much better...just still really groggy).

Needless to say - next set of storms we get - I'll only give her 1/4 tablet!

So when I was woken up the other night at 3am by the LOUD thunderstorm, do you know who I thought about as I tried to fall back asleep? Sweet Kayla and how she was handling the storm :) Glad to hear that the sedatives helped.
